engine last longer and not the ollv Most oil filters do not remove liquid contatninants such as unburned fuel, moisture condensation and acids resulting from products of combustion and oil oxidation. Most liquid contaminants accumulate during cold engine operation. Unburned fuel, resulting from rich fuel mixtures and vapor condensation in a cold crankcase are two causes. .More than one gallon of water is produced’as vapor in burning a gallon of fuel. Some of this vapor finds its way into the crankcase where it condenses and contaminates the oft. Once an engine is started^ it should be run long enough/to bring it to normal operating temperature before stepping. This permits vaporization of many of the liquid contaminants held in oil and helps eliminate them. With increased cold engine operation in winter, it is recommended that engine oil be changed more often during this period.

If possible, change engine oil when the engine is hot. This aids in removal of sludge and other deposits from the crankcase.
