Annual House Tour
Dates Announced
The annual House Tour and Dried Flower Arrangement Sale by the Women of the Church of Bromfield Parish will be held Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23. Saturday from 11 a. m. until 5 p. m. and Sunday from 1 p. m. until 5 p. m.
Arrangements will be on sale at Trinity Episcopal Parish Hall at Washington, Va. The three homes to be open on those days are Meadow Grove on the Old Richmond Road, Route 729, south of Ben Venue, owned by Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher Massie; the residence of Mrs. William Meade Fletcher, in the town of Washington, corner of Main and Calvert Street; and Green back Farm, about 1 mile south east of Washington on Route 626, owned by Judge and Mrs. T. C. Lea, Jr. Meadow Grove started with an original log cabin and kitchen built in the 18th century. In 1866 Colonel Thomas Benjamin Massie, great-grandfather of the present owner, added to and remodeled the dwelling, rather in the Federal spirit although done in the Victorian era. Some of the original furniture, which has been lovingly preserved, remains at Meadow Grove. Sections of the charming home owned and occupied by Mrs. Fletcher were built prior to 1800 and has had many owners and served various occupations, including a doctor's office. Jail, telephone office and antique shop. It is now strictly a residence and contains a wealth of memorabilia Americana. Greenback Farm, set in the rolling hills known locally as Tiger Valley, wds built after 1800 by Joseph Reid and later owned and remodeled by Charles Deer, one of Mosby's men and leader of the famous Green back Raid. It passed to the ownerships of Dr. E. W. Brown rand Mr. and Mrs. Carson Anderson. It has been recently and tastefully remodeled by the Leas, Meeting Changed
The September meeting of the AmUsvllle Home Demonstration Club will be held Monday night, September 12 in the educational rooms at Amissvllle B a p 1181 Church. Note this date which is a postponement from the regular first Monday meeting night which falls on a holiday.
