The Madison Livestock Market, Inc., at Madison Mills marks its tenth anniversary of continuous operation on Sat urday, August 27. During these ten years, the Market has handled 139,038 head of cattle ’to the tune of $10,739,332.06 Looking back at an issue of the local newspaper reporting the new business, it was reported that the first day of sale -- Monday at two o'clock with Champ Blankenbaker the official auctioneer — brought $20,000 in business. E. Forest Lohr delivered the first animal to the Market. Top price for beef was $22.50 and hogs went for $17.50 per hundredweight.
Although it began modestly the Market has built up from a total of 25,237 head during its first three years of operation to the handling of 16,412 head during 1965 alone, with 6,789 head handled so far this year. With four fall feeder sales still ahead, the Corporation looks forward to another banner year. RCHS Class of ’59 Plans Reunion
A reunion of the 1959 graduating class of Rappahannock County High School will be held Sunday, August 28 at the Pinnacles on Skyline Drive at 12 noon. All members of the class with their families and the high school faculty are invited to attend. Everyone is to bring a picnic lunch.
