Traffic Death Total
The 1,096 traffic deaths reported in Virginia during 1966 topped the 1,062 of 1965 to again mark the second highest toll, as well as the sixth consecutive year of increase, Col onel C. W. Woodson, jr., Chairman of the Governor’s Highway Safety Committee and Superintendent of State Police, announced today. The year’s deaths were exceeded only by the 1,110 of 1941. Colonel Woodson noted that while late reports and deaths of persons injured in 1966 would inch the total a little further toward the 1941 record, there was little chance of reaching it. A rise of about 5.4 percent in traffic volumes aided in bringing a decrease in the death rate (deaths per each 100 million miles of travel)
Dog Tags Due
Kvery dog owner is reminded that 1967 dog tags must be purchased on or before Jan. 31, 1967. The tags are sold at the County Treasurer’s Office in Washington, Va. Certificates of vaccination are required for the purchase of tags. All dog owners who do not comply will be prosecuted.
