NOW you can afford to spend more labor hours with that cow herd than at any other season of the year. The first step in increasing pounds of calf sold per cow bred is a live calf. In fact a calf is the only thing a beef cow produces in a year. Lose but a few calves at calving time and the average weight of the calf sold per cow goes down, down, down! Research has proven checking the cow-bred four' times per day most profitable. How much time this often requires depends whether the cows are other side of yonder hill, or in a small pasture close to your home and barn or cow shed. Ger a calf through the first couple days and usually he can talce care of himself. Why not look the whole herd over once a week or ten days, shift the heavier springers to that small near by pasture where you can keep an eye on them handily.
