Richmond, Va. . .With the author iz’ed strength of the State Police increasing from 847 to 897 July 1, Colonel C. W. * Woodson, Jr., the Superintendent, advised that the Department is seeking applications from eligible young mentofill existing and future vacancies.
Applicants must have a high school education and express willingness to serve anywhere in Virginia. Although one cannot be stationed in his home county, consideration may be given to his being stationed in a general area of his choice.
A physical and an adaptation test and a character investigation must be passed, with minimum height standards 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 4 inches. Weight must be proportional to height but cannot be below 160 pounds or above 22Q, Age limits are from 21 to 29. Immediately upon employment on a conditional basis, the trooper receives the pres^ ent full entry pay of $5,880 per year, which can be increased to $7,680 through the next 5 1/2 years. All uniforms and equipment are supplied, as well as one rq/al each duty day. Promotion is considered as supervisory vacancies arise. Although on call at all times, a trooper generally works five 8-hour tour6 of duty per week. Maximum vacation is 18 duty1 days, with 11 holidays, and ample leave with pay is pro-i vided for illness. A trooper first works for a minimum of 30 days in the; field with an experienced man before attending 19 weeks of basic training at Administrative Headquarters in Richmond.
