. Capt. Fred Kochli, Sr.
Capt. Fred Kochli, Sr., 76, died September 15, 1967 in Walter Reed Hospital. He resided in Washington, D. C. and also hada homeatNethers in Rappahannock. Capt. Kochli was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in World War I in France on September 27, 1918 when as a Lieutenant, he led a patrol against machinegun fire to capture'26 enemy troops and artillery. He was wounded in combat three days later, resulting in the loss of an arm. He also received the Purple Heart and the French Croix de Guerre. He worked with the Disabled Veterans of World War I and later joined the American Legion’s National Rehabilitation Division, specializing in Veteran’s insurance from 1936 until his retirement in 1956. Capt. Kochli was a native of Alliance, Ohio. He joined the 8th Ohio Infantry in 1916 to
