The 1968-69 deer season opened Monday with the deer having the advantage of the elements. Even a night long rain which continued into the day could not dampen the spirits of the hunters opening day fever. Hie deer, however, apparently were content to sit tight until the weather started to clear.
Opening day hunters are persistent however, and before the day was done many were successful. Robert Rutherford and Tony Moritz, both of Huntly, checked nice bucks. For Tony it was his second buck in as many years. Tommie Starks of Woodville and Jack Taylor both checked 8 pointers at Baldwins. Terry Rohebaugh, 8 points, Dorsey Rohebaugh, 5 points, both of Fairfax and Robert Crowell, 8 points, from McLean, were successful. In the Sperryville area Charles R. Jenkins killed a 13 pointer, Norman Woodard, Catlett, 6 points; Douglas Wallace, Luray, 6 points; Charles E. Jenkins, Sperryville, 5 points; and Tony Robucci of Hagerstown, Md., 3 pointer.
Hie second day was rewarding to at least 2 hunters in the Flint Hill area. Tommie Jordan took a 16 point, 186 pound buck and Walter Krause got an 8 point, 161
