ine lirst ot seven new Community Colleges to be built during the 1968-70 biennium was announced today by the State Board for Community Colleges in Richmond. E. B. Sydnor, Jr., Chairman of the State Board, said that the college will be constructed on a 100-acre site just north of and immediately adjacent to the town of Middletown, in Frederick County. It will serve the counties of Clark, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren and the city of Winchester (Region 15).
Construction on the project, which will cost in excess of one million dollars, will begin in 1969. Expenditure of State funds for this project was made possible ’ by the approval of the bond issue. Plans are now being prepared by the Alexandria, Va. architecture firm of Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle, and Wolff, which was designated for the job by the State Board after the review of credentials of a number of firms.
Sydnor said it is hoped that the new comprehensive community college will be open for students in 1970.

Richmond, Va....Noting thaf last Thanksgiving weekend ir Virginia saw a record 27 traffic deaths, John T. Hanna, Directoi of the Highway Safety Division, reminded motorists and pedestrians that the present period is a very dangerous one.
“Just about all the dangers ol the Christmas holiday season, the ■ worst of the year, are with us,’ he said. They are the shortest i days of the year, heavy traffic i increased drinking, holiday . inattention and the every present i threat of bad weather.” i He pointed out that last yeai • November, with 116 deaths, wai ■ second only to the 120 ol I August. December saw 113.
Mr. Hanna felt that there remains a good chance of ending the year with less deaths than the 1,223 experienced last year and breaking the chain of seven consecutive years in which deaths have increased. “At one point in June this year,” he said, “we were 37 deaths ahead of the 1967 score. For the last few weeks, we have been running slightly under.”
For statistical purposes, the weekend is considered to run from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, until midnight Sunday, December 1.
