Concluding the evening was an illustrated review of a trip which might be termed an education to the experts. Gerald White, guest speaker, was one of thirty Virginia Farm Extension Agents who made a tour through Maryland and Pennsylvania under the sponsorship of the Virginia Association of Electric Cooperatives. Describing the talk as a digest of man’s outstanding accomplishments, both within and without the cycle of farming, Mr. White told of the new freeze method of branding cattle, the system called controlled environment, which automatically stock feeds 500 cattle, the handling and breeding of such horses as Native Dancer, Dancer’s Image and others on the Vanderbilt farm in Maryland, and finally giving the club a description of the model city, Columbia, Md., built on farm land where each section has its own school within walking distance, its own swimming pool, no neon signs anywhere but a park and shopping center for each prescribed area.
