Well, another year has passed, another day of pleasant association has gone into the limbo of the past. The annual get-together of Federal retirees has come and gone. ®

It is pleasant to see friends of a bygone day, to reminisce. To compare things of the present with things that were. We once took pride in knowing such fine details of our work as the fact that a woman rode a mule down a mountain three times a week to pick up mail for some remote village. Now it seems that the most a dispatcher has to know is how to read numbers and dispatch to a corresponding number. It is said that if back in the days of wooden cars and iron men, if a postal employee had chosen some other profession and devoted as much time to study as he was required to, he would have been a success in the field of law, medicine, theology or what have you. Most of us took pride in our work, I take a certain amount of pride in having been associated with such a dedicated group of people.

As I was leaving someone asked me if he could look forward to seeing me next year. I replied that I certainly hoped so, but us oldsters sometimes just faded out of the picture. There was a woman just behind me, whose
