Two Truck Crashes

The highway east ol Washington was temporarily blocked Tuesday morning when i tractor-trailer overturned on it side across the single lane sectioi of Route 211. The crash occurret in the road construction arei about 9:15 a.m. and also involvec a pickup truck.
According to Trooper W. A Buntin, the 1970 White tractoi pulling a trailer loaded with lawr mowers, was owned by Roadway Express, Inc. of Akron, Ohio Operator of the outfit was Danny Reid Sanford of Talbott, Tenn who was unable to stop when he topped the hill to find traffic halted in the east bound lane. Sanford applied h i s brakes and swerved to avoid two vehicles stopped on the highway because of the road construction. He struck a 1957 Chevrolet pickup owned by the Warren County School Board and operated by Boyd Hollis Baggarly of Front Royal, and then tipped over coming to rest on the side.
No injuries resulted from the collision. Damage to the tractor-trailer seemed amazingly slight and was estimated at $3,000. The pickup, valued only at $300, was declared a total loss. A truck crash also occurred last Wednesday evening on Route 522 a mile and a half east of Woodville. Nelson Lewis Burner of Luray was operating a 1963 Chevrolet van truck owned by Kibler’s Center Market, Luray traveling west. The rear wheel ran off the vehicle and it turned over landing on its top. The van body was crushed and its contents of merchandise, fresh fruit, vegetables and grocery items spilled onto the highway. The driver was not injured and only a limited amount of the produce was lost. Damage to the truck was estimated at $2,500 and loss of merchandise at $150. Trooper Buntin investigated this crash also.
