Library Lines
The Library has begun a pilot program to introduce the Library and its collection of children’s literature to the Elementary School children of Rappahannock County. With the generous cooperation of Mrs. Kilby, Elementary School Librarian, a selection was made of books not available in the school’s collection and these carried to the school and loaned to the children. At the same time representatives of the Rappahannock Library met and talked with the children to' gain an insight into their interests and reading levels, as an aid in the selection of new books for the Library. This brief experience has been rewarding, both to the children and to the Library. The program has interested potential youthful borrowers and has enabled the representatives to learn much about their tastes and interests. The Library hopes to continue this so far successful project in September,Hirim expanded scope. To reach each elementary school child will require the help of 5 volunteers willing to give one full day each week, or 10 volunteers giving V4 day each week. This summer such volunteers would be asked to come to the Library, at their convenience, from time to time, to familiarize themselves with the junior library collection. There are no restrictions as to age or sex, and no special previous experience is needed. Any one who is interested in helping these children to enlarge their world through reading is asked to please call Mrs. Ian Pryde, Chairman of the Volunteers Committee, at 987-8221.
Library Hours: Wednesday and Friday, 1 to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Children’s Hour: Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m.
