THE CALM actions and cool self control displayed by Trooper W.A. Buntin in a critical situation Monday night probably saved his life and spared the lives of several others.
Faced by a berserk young man armed with a fully loaded .44 caliber German Hurder, Buntin assuaged the man until his attention could be diverted and he could be overcome.
At the request of the Sheriff’s , Department, Troopers Buntin and R.A. Baines joined Sheriff John Walker Jenkins and his deputy Everett Estes to serve a warrant on Peter Marx who lived on the old Updike property east of Washington on Route 633. . ... The warrant was the result of a confrontation ear-; lier in the day which involved Marx, John Lyle, James Hourahan and subsequently, Commonwealth’s Attorney George H. Davis Jr.
Marx, who shared his home with two other males and a young girl, had a disagreement with Lyle and Hourahan on the state road near their property, and at that time had brandished a gun and shot on the road.
