'Growth’ report
WE REALLY HATE to appear to be picking on Virginia Electric & Power Company, but Vepco seems to have a corporate genius for missing the point.
This week we received in the mail a tidy booklet entitled “Virginia’s Urban Corridor —aReport prepared for Virginia Electric and Power Company.’’ Clarence R. Jung Jr., a professor of economics at the University of Richmond, was hired j to put the report together, and, guess what? — He predicts continued rapid growth for Virginia’s “urban corridor,” — an area which Vepco serves^
Professor Jung is somewhat apologetic that his previous growth predictions weren’t fully carried out by events, but he’s confident “for a continuation of a relatively high growth rate” in Northern Virginia. That’ll mean more “demand” for electric power, of course.
He seems to think that’s nice, since he also equates “rising living standards (with) for example, the installation of electric heat and other amenities.” Installation of electric heat that goes out when it snows isn’t exactly our idea of a higher standard of living, but then we weren’t paid to put out reports for an electric utility.
