(From page 1 Marvelous Melvin alternated the pace setting, widening the distance to Top Raider and Quorum Call with Acrospire several lengths farther back, then a strung out Badge of Honor, Zoomer, Sun Castle and Half Smoke. . Moving down to the sev. enth, across the field to the starting fence, Free Movement and Marvelous Melvin continued to press their race, the middle of the field jockeying for the show position, with Half Smoke trailing.
The pair jumped together over the last fence, but Saturday was Marvelous Melvin’s day and he drove to a length and a half win over Free Movement. While attention was being centered on the front running pair, Acrospire and Zoomer continued to better their positions from the ninth fence homeward, ending in third and fourth respectively.

HURDLE
The hurdle race, a new innovation at Rappahannock, proved to be so successful it was divided into two sections, with six horses in both sections. The course is in view of the spectators with all the fences except the fourth 4’4”. The uphill fourth is 4” lower.
