Hi! Our first basketball game was fabulous! The school really showed a lot of that good spirit. Although we did lose, we’ve got 17 more games to prove how great we are.
The J.V.’s put up a terrific fight under the coaching of Mr. Jerry Campbell but the final score was 31-29 favoring Montevideo.
The Panther varsity team was hard to beat, also, but with the game tied at the end which required three minutes of overtime, the mighty Panthers went under by two points; a final 60-58 score.
Those were exciting games and if our others are like it, as they might seem to be, you’d better not miss them.
Last week I made a couple of mistakes. Can you believe it? The student home tickets for basketball games did go up to $1.00 instead of 75 cents. Sorry. Also, several names of the Varsity squad were inadvertently omitted from my list I turned in, but that wasn’t my fault. However they are Dale Russell, Bobby Smoot and Ernie McDonald, who also play as guards and forwards for the Panthers.
The JV team is comprised of Mike Tupper, Mike Smoot, Barry Adkins, Milton Fletcher, Aubrey Russell, Donnell Carter, Larry Brown, Billy Dawson, Clif Jenkins, Hodge Miller, Cecil Smoot, Ronnie Nicholson and Andy Nichols. They all did a fine job Tuesday, losing by only 2 points.
Congratulations everybody for your support* sp
