Vital hearing
COMING UP THE END of the month is another round of hearings on a subject which has worried Rappahannock County and its neighbors for years — the prospect of hideous new powerline corridors slashing across our lovely landscape. The exact times and places for the hearings, and the points to be stressed at these “environmental impact” interrogations, will be printed over the next several weeks in a legal advertisement in this newspaper; separate news articles relating to any additional developments will also be carried.
The point of these reminders is to urge the largest possible turnout of interested citizens at the local hearings. After all, hearings are held, by law, to give decision-makers — in this case, the State Corporation Commission — a sounding of citizen feeling. The process is often distorted in practice, but it’s more difficult to distort when there is a large and enthusiastic turnout for scheduled hearings. What better way to let the Commission members know that Rappahannock’s citizens are deeply^ concerned?
