“IT IS NECESSARY that I have adequate time to carry out an active law practice and this has become impossible due to the increasing duties and responsibilities required in representing the more than 93,000 persons in this district.
“For this reason, and in fairness to everyone concerned, I am forced to make this decision. I intend to devote my legislative duties whatever time is necessary during the remainder of my term of office which ends in January. I will continue my interest in the affairs of this district and of our beloved Commonwealth and will be ready and available to help in Whatever way I can.
“AGAIN, MY HEARTFELT thanks to the fine people of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Warren and Winchester, and also to those from Rappahannock County, which was in my district for two years.
“My thoughts will continue with all of you and my door will always be open to you.” ’ □
