EVERY picnicker and fisherman should carry his own trash bag. Take home your own trash, and fill up the bag with some of that left behind by the people who were there last. Even the pull tabs from beer and soft drink cans can kill fish; the fish swallow them, and then cannot digest or eliminate the metal rings.
Merchants and industrialists should follow the same rule of thumb as outlined in the last article for farmers, namely, manage your establishment so that nothing washes away when the rains come or the snows melt. Pollution control is built into many new plants; it can be “engineered into” many older businesses, especially those discharging oils or greases, chemicals, detergents, or any substance which could be potentially damaging to fish and wildlife.
