Robin and I left unpacking for midday. It was 10 o’clock in the morning and we had seen a scrappy smallmouth jump clear of the water at a Dobson fly.
1 had three fish before Robin could get his equipment together. He asked me in a strained voice what I was using. I told him the fish liked a small white popping bug, so he tied on a Helgramite nymph pattern and proceeded to outfish me. I waded straight across and Robin waded up the right bank. In an hour we had caught and released better than 30 bream and smallmouth.
