all green plants in andar- <> ound the waters edge, a fish kill could occur due to lack of oxygen.

The green plants produce the oxygen. Some also may be concerned that the spray would have drifted onto other areas; however, Gene Holt of Brookneal, VA. has been flying and doing spray work for a number of years. Through his experience and care, no drift occured. A garden located within 100 yards of the sprayed area had several tomato plants. Tomato plants are very sensitive to 2,4,D or 2,4,5,T spray drift. These tomato plants showed no evidence of any drift.

Now that the trees are dead, the Virginia Division of Forestry will plant 700 to 800 Loblolly pines per acre in the spring. It is hoped a future forest will develop that is at least 60% Loblolly pines. Even though this area has been sprayed and the pines will be planted, many hardwood species such as hickory, oaks, locust and yellow poplar will establish themselves with the pine.
