WHAT A SAD CHORE for newspaper editorialists, to have to write again and again about vandalism—acts of senseless destruction of private property.
We just hope that this time the newspaper didn’t have something to do with a particularly senseless incident.
Bradford’s Store in Flint Hill recently installed some spiffy new front doors—all glass, and of a quick-closing type which helps keep heat loss at a minimum during the winter months, and airconditioning in during the summer. A photographer from the News took a picture of the installation, and the picture was printed. If this picture served to inspire some warped individual with a rifle to use the doors for target practice, then we’re truly sorry.
We’re even sorrier that someone is so devoid of respect for others—not to mention an awareness of safety factors involved—that such a thing could be done. We’re sorrier still that there have been so many incidents of vandalism, some far more destructive than this, in recent months in Rappahannock County.
And our sorrow will only be exceeded by our disgust when, and if, the hoodlums are caught and if they go through the familiar routine of whimpering about their “rights” and how these “rights” shouldn’t be violated. □
