DO YOU HAVE abandoned farm land, brush land, or cutover land that should be planted to trees? Well managed forest land provides recreation for outdoorsmen, shelter and food for wildlife, scenic beauty and soil and water conservation, while growing timber crops to meet man’s material needs. The Virginia Division of Forestry is now accepting orders for the coming spring tree planting season. Trees are sold at cost for reforestation, Christmas trees, or wind breaks in minimum orders of 500, except for black walnut, autumn olive and bicolor lespedeza. Black walnut is sold in minimum orders of 25; autumn olive and bicolor lespedeze are sold in minimum orders of 100. Trees are not sold for ornamental purposes.
Tree seedlings available are Loblolly pine, Virginia pine, white pine, shortleaf pine, yellow poplar, ash, black locust, black walnut and some Norway spruce; wildlife plants available are autumn olive and bicolor lespedeza. The cost varies from $7.00 to $25.00 per thousand, except black walnut; black walnut is $10.00 per hundred.
