RESOLUTION

Pursuant to the authority granted the County of Rappahannock by Section 29*184.2 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, at amended, to levy license tax on dogs and in accordance with Chapter 204, Acta of the General Aaaembly of Virginia, approved March 30,1942, at page 428, (H B 432), and upon motion .of E. P. Luke, aeconded by J. R. Latham and passed, the following reaolution ia propoeed for adoption at the next regular meeting of the Board of Siverviaora of Rappahannock County on {December 6, 1973, commencing at 10:00 A.M.:

BE IT ORDAINED, by the Board of Stverviaora, that die Dog Licenae Tax Ordinance of Rappahannock County be a interceded and reenacted aa follows:

SECTION 1. It shall be- unlawful for any person to own or keep a dog six (6) months old or over in Rappahannock County unleai such dog ia licensed, aa required by the provisions of .this ordinance. Dog licenses shall run for the calendar year, namely, from January 1 until December 31, inclusive, and the license tax shall be paid at the office of the Treasurer.

SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for any person to import into, or to breed within, the County of Rappahannock, any German or Belgian Shepherd or any other dog having ooe-fourth or more of the Mood of either of them, without obtaining the license hereinafter provided for,

SECTION 3. Each and every person owning any such dog of the breed, or blood mentioned in Section 2 of the ordinance, within the County of Rappahannock, shall after January the first, nineteen hundred and seventy-four, procure from the county treasurer a special license for such dog to be in lieu of all other licenses on such dogs, the tax on which special licenses shall be as follows: (a) For a female, ten dollars ($10.00) (b) For a male, five dollars ($5.00) (c) For an unsexed female, provided such female is successfully

spayed as shown by a veternarian’s certificate presented to

the Treasurer, five dollars ($5.00). SECTION 4. Each and every -person owning any dog other than the breed or blood mentioned in Section 2 of this ordinance within the County of Rappahannock, shall after January 1, 1974, procure from the County Treasurer a license for such dog, the tax on which shall he as follows: (a) For a female, five'dollars ($5.00) (b) For a male, three dollars ($3.00) (c) For an unsexed female, provided such female is successfully

.spayed as shown by a veternarian’s certificate presented to the

Treasurer, three dollars ($3.00). (d) Kennel, for 15 dogs, thirty dollars ($30.00). (a) Kennel, for 25 dogs, fifty dollars ($50.00). SECTION 5. Upon the application for any such dog license and the payment of the amount of the tax thereon, as fixed by this ordinance, the Treasurer shall issue in triplicate and deliver Ms receipt there* for to the applicant and a delicate thereof to the dog warden, setting out therein the date of payment, the year for which paid, and the sex and breed of the dog, and shall furnish to the owner of the dog a metal license tag to be provided by the Board of Supervisors of the County, of such form and design as the board may adopt, the serial number of which tag shall be set out in said receipt. SECTION 6. Any person owning or keeping any such dog within the County of Rappahannock without having paid the license tax thereon and secured a metal tag for such dog, as prescribed by this ordinance, shall be required to forthwith procure such license for said dog, or, at Ms option, permit the dog warden to kill the dog, wMch the dog warden shall forthwith do if such license he not paid; and the dog warden shall kill any such dog, of unknown ownership, found naming at large on which such license has not been paid. . SECTION ?. Provided however, that nothing in fids ordinance shall apply to any dog owned and used, or used, by a blind person as a guide dog. "" - An emergency existing, this ordinanoe shall become effective upon its passage.
