Supervisor Herbert Foster moved that the claims for both the “massacre” victims and the earlier kill be paid. There was no second to his motion, but Miller called for a vote anyway. The vote failed, three to two: Foster and Miller voted yes, voting no were Supervisors Luke, E. B. Wood Jr. and=J. R. Latham.

Supervisor Wood then moved that the county pay for the “massacre” victims. Foster seconded the motion, and this vote carried by a three to two margin. Voting with the majority was Miller; voting no were Wood and Luke. The total claim, someone figured, came to around
