INDEPENDENCE Day will be observed Thursday July 4, with a varied program at Avon Hall, Washington, which will include festive fireworks, music, games dancing and public speaking. Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan have extended an invitation to the public to enjoy the festivities. The program begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Fourth of July oration will be delivered by L. Brent Bozell, editor of Triumph Magazine of Warrenton, who resides with his family at Huntly. Local musicians will play and sing, and loud speakers will insure all is carried to the hillsides.
Rappahannock Lions Club will direct games and races which will include a ’ sack race, potato race, three-legged race, and others, according to Joel Daczewitz, president of the Lions. The games will be outlines byTomMetzinger, president of the Rappahannock Recreational Association. Prizes will be awarded by the Lions Club. There will also be square dancing for those who wish to take part.
DRINKS and sandwiches will be sold by Washington Fire Company, and Hopewell Baptist Church will sell box suppers, or the public is invited to bring their picnic suppers and enjoy themselves on the hills at Avon Hall, remembering to use the area next y to the courthouse. Mr. Carrigan also request that all trash be placed in the receptacles conveniently located in the area.
