AT A TIME when economics seems to be the basis of every conversation, when even observations on the weather are couched in terms of what effect it will have on the marketplace, it is refreshing to be reminded that this concern is by no means peculiar to our particular time and place. It has always been thus.

By way of verification, we reprint herewith a clipping salvaged from a weekly newspaper, circa—1900, a time when economics were even mingled with social affairs in reporting the news. This wedding write-up illustrates the case:
