For the first seven months of the year Virginia’s meleage death rate (deaths per each 100 million miles of vehicular travel) was 2.4 which compared well with the national average of 3.6. For the period, only two states had lower rates and three had the same.
Colonel Burgess noted that all statistics were subject to slight upward revision due to late reports and deaths of persons now carried as injured.
