H. B. WOOD said he hadn’t taken a poll, but from talking with people in his district, he felt most of them opposed spending public funds for such a project. Herbert Foster thought along the same lines. “Have we got the power to do it, to spend county tax money on this?”
Chairman Pete Luke thought the Supervisors needed a “public expression in each of the districts” regarding such an expenditure before they could make a decision.
“Some people think it (the powerline) is necessary,” H. B. Wool said. “What if a group of them comes along and asks us to help them?”
The earliest possible time that the Supervisors could consider contribution to the powerline fight would be in the early spring during _ hearings on next year’s budget,,, Pete Luke told Batchelder. There is approximately $112,000 leftover in the general fund, he said, and the Supervisors had taken from the surplus in order to meet the budget after cutting the tax rate last spring.
