From May to December of this year Shenandoah National Park Rangers apprehended more than 180 persons involved in drug related activities. Park Rangers do much more than provide visitor service and protect Park wildlife, as they also function as the police force within Shenandoah National Park, and must be prepared to deal with the same criminal activities as municipal policemen. During 1975 the Park Rangers worked closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration in an effort to reduce the use of illegal drugs within Shenandoah National Park. Park Ranger Hank Blatt is shown inventorying a portion of the drug items seized during this program. Such items are routinely destroyed after the cases have been cleared through the federal court and sentences are levied against those persons found guilty of violations of federal regulations.
