Their request was the subject of public hearings before the Planning Commissioners and the Supervisors. The Supervisors denied both requests at their meeting December 4. The vote to deny was unanimous, with Clarence Baldwin abstaining. T.C. Lea, the Culpeper attorney representing the Williams, filed suit on December 8.

THE BILL of complaint also charges that the Supervisors’ action takes away the Williams’s property “without compensation,’’ and it charges that Commonwealth’s Attorney George Davis failed to follow the direction of the Planning Commissioners, who asked him to meet with Lea and work out a compromise that would be acceptable to theWilliamsesand within the provisions of the ordinance.

Davis said he did meet with Lea and the Williams attorney said his clients would be satisfied with no less than eight lots. Davis felt that the ordinance clearly states that the “family exception’’ allows no more than five lots, so he concluded that no eight lot compromise would be in keeping with the ordinance.
