angels was established about 482 A.D., well after the time the New Testament was written, when Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, a Christian theologian, drew up the nine categories of angels. The nine categories of angels in descending order include seraphim, cherubim, thrones, dominions, powers, authorities, principalities; archangels and angels.
