Trout season starts Saturday

NOON SATURDAY, APRIL 3, marks the beginning of trout season in Rappahannock and Madison Counties. The season in both counties will remain open, through May 9, and reopen one hour before sunrise, Saturday, May 15.

The streams have all been stocked with Rappahannock and Madison having a combined total over 13,000 fish scattered about the Piney, Garth Run, Hughes, Robinson and Rose rivers.Sportsmen should be thoroughly acquainted with the fishing regulations to avoid a possible violation of the law.

Spring Gobbler season opens Saturday April 17 and extends through May 15. The legal hunting hours are from one half hour before sunrise to 11 a.m. each day. The bag limit is (me bearded bird per day with a season limit of two birds.

The overlapping of trout and spring gobbler seasons could present a problem for the outdoorsmen, but why not compromise and spend mornings hunting and evenings fishing. There can’t be a more delightful way to spend a spring day.—Jim Bankston
