cash spread of $2.50 to $2.84-3/4. Soybean prices were 3 to 15 cents higher, mostly 10 to 12 cents higher with a cash spread of $4.45 to $4.87.
Cash bids to corn producers at southeastern Virginia points closed at $2.50 to $2.70 and Richmond $2.60 to $2.65. Wilson, N. C., was $2.63 to $2.64. South Carolina’s Piedmont area was $2.70 and Central $2.81. Louisville, Ky., was 1 to 2 cents higher at $2.64 to $2.67 and Ohio Valley closed at $2.50 to $2.60. Alabama trucklot offerings were $2.83 to $2.84-3/4 and Georgia multi-carlot offerings ranged $2.83-1/2 to $2.84-1/4. Terminal offering prices at Memphis were $2.78 to $2.83 and Norfolk $2.77.
CATTLE—Southeastern feeder cattle prices advanced sharply under very good demand during the week ended April 9. Receipts of feeder cattle at selected markets in the Southeast this week totaled 39,500 as compared to 33,800 the previous week and 30,700 a year ago. Total receipts included 68 per cent feeders this week as compared to 65 per cent the previous week and 62 per cent a year ago. As compared with the previous week, feeder classes were $1 to $3 higher with some steers and steer calves up $4. Upturns again this week have put feeder classes at the highest level since the July-August period of 1974.
In representative sales around the Southeast, choice 200 to 400 pound steer calves sold at $36 to $46; 400 to 500 pounds $35 to $45; 500 to 600 pound claves $35 to $44.
Choice 200 to 500 pound heifer calves sold largely $28 to $35 and 500 to 600 pounds $29 to $34.50. Good 200 to 500 pound calves were $25 to $33 and 500 to 600 pounds $25 to $32.50.
