THE weekend frost is not unusual for this time of the year. But its intensity and the damage was more this year than other years when orchards were hit by an early April frost.
During normal years, the apple blossoms would not have been this far developed. The warm weather in February and March pushed bud and blossom development ahead by about two weeks, according to E. M. Jones who owns about 40 acres of orchards. He said that there is about a month between when the green buds form and when the blossoms open.
Jones noted that the warm weather in March caused the buds form in early March instead or the middle of the month. □
