Roger Batchelder and Emory Russell reported that the Extension, Registrar and ASC offices were satisfied with their present office space. The 14 by 14 Zoning office is “adequate but they have to move,” said Batchelder, adding that he had tried to talk C. J. Miller at Rappahannock National Bank into making one more office upstairs over the Bank. Batchelder offered to share his office with the Zoning Office “if they have to move out in a hurry.”
Johnson maintained it was necessary to set Court House space priorities before proceeding further with any recommendations. “Judge Moffett has to get another room,” said Masterson. “Give him the zoning office. He’s said he would be perfectly happy with it just the way it is.” Baumgardner said the best place for the Zoning Office would be over the Bank where the office would be close to the Clerk and the Commissioner of Revenue. He said there is an office available there for $75 a month.
COMMITTEE Chairman T. Granville Eastham suggested that the members make a “strong recommendation” to the Supervisors that the jail be used for office space. “One person incarcerated for 24 hours is stopping us from using that entire building,” said Masterson.
Johnson suggested the Committee recommend that the Sheriff’s office could be moved to the downstairs of the jail, with the School Board or Zoning and Registrars office using the present living room and dining room.
