JOHN SCHELL, counsel for both the Rappahannock and Fauquier League for Environmental Protection, said today that he has filed an appeal on behalf of the two citizens organizations designed to halt a proposed 32-mile powerline planned by the Virginia Electric & Power Company (Vepco) which is “aimed directly at Northern Virginia’s only large recreational area.”
“The issue here is whether a unique recreational resource for the citizens of Northern Virginia will be preserved or severely damaged because of Vepco’s insensitivity,” Schell said. “I don’t believe that Northern Virginians want massive concrete and steel towers marching across the area’s only major recreational facility.” Schell said that the two organizations originally opposed the powerline which would stretch from the company’s North Anna nuclear plant in Louisa County to Morrisville because it cuts through the Rappahannock Wildlife Manage
