Army Specialist 4 Morris A. Carter, the son of Mrs. Annie Carter of Washington, has received an unusual number of honors during his short military career. In the Army only 15 months, Carter has been promoted twice since arriving last August at Fort Lee, near Hopewell. Both promotions were instigated personally by Fort Lee’s commanding general. In addition, Carter has been recognized as the Food Service Specialist of the Quarter for the period of April through June.
Carter was awarded a trophy for his outstanding abilities as a cook by Major General Dean Van Lydegraf, commanding general of the U. S. Army Quartermaster Center and Fort Lee. In a letter of commendation, General Van Lydegraf stressed the importance of Carter’s work. The general said that “palatable and nutritional food, properly prepared and attractively served, is essential to the health, welfare and morale of all soldiers.
