RYE FOR WINTER GRAZING—If you are looking winter in the eve with a light supply of hay, you may want to consider reseeding your corn silage field to rye. Utilizing winter rye should furmsh at least 50-60 days more grazing provided it is seeded nght after corn silage is harvested. Rye makes more vigorous fall and late winter growth than most other small grains and rye grass. Seed rve at 1-1/2 to 2 bushels per acre. Early seeding means early grazing. Rotational grazing results in more feed. Keep cattle off wet, miry fields and be sure to fertilize for earlier and heavier yields.
SEEDING FESCUE—A successful fall seeding of fescue will usually be ready to support the stockpiling program the following August. * Recommended seeding time is from mid-August to the later part of September. □
