ninety years. The original section was built of log in 1785, the stone section in 1812 and the brick section in 1860, just before the Civil War. The DeBerghs have done a good job of gathering antiques to furnish the house.
The Oaks boasts a log section which dates back to 1749 and the house was once used as a rectory. In a field near the house is a large oak, now dead, which is called the “dipper tree.” This tree by the spring once held the silver (tipper sent here by the Queen of England.
Mrs. Harris and her late husband, carefully restored this 200 year old farm house which al§o shows the original log portion. The house contains many antiques and mementos from Mr. Harris’ newspaper and writing career.
Box lunches served by members of First Baptist Church will be available both days near the parish hall and a country dinner featuring turkey and the trimmings will be served at the Flint Hill fire hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening. The Flint Hill United Methodist Church sponsors the dinner. Jenkins Auction House in Washington is offering free coffee and donuts to all tour ticket holders both days.
TEA will be served during the tour at Pleasant View and block tickets may be purchased for $5 or single home may be toured for $2.
