ABBOTT explained that having a high percentage of low income families to be served by the project was the key to obtaining HUD funding this year. A landfill application submitted by Greene County this year was ranked in the third category and denied funding while a water line expansion project to serve low income families was awarded a grant. Abbott emphasized, however, that the criteria could change next year. “We’re applying again,” said Greene Commonwealth Attorney Dave Dickie, “and we may well get it.”
