The second group were World War II and post-World War II veterans who took out term policies while they were in service during 1948. The first group had policies with 8-year terms to run. and the sec ond group's policies had terms of 5 sears, both of them expiring juring tfie year 1953. In Virginia, approximately 24. 500 veterans are aifected and stand to lose about $195,000,000. If veterans in both groups do not wish to lose altogefher the insur ance coverage under these poli cies. they must reinstate them before the policies expire. VA said. Otherwise, unuer present laws, they will not be eligible for further GI life insurance. Policies may be reinstated by applying to a Veterans Adminis tration office. If tiic policy has been lapsed for three months, the veteran must pass a physical examination. The payment of i wo monthly premiums is also re quired. President Eisenhower has or dered the Bureau of Labor Statis tics to revive, until June 30. its old cost-of-living index and to publish it along with the revised index which will be the govern ment's official index for public policy purposes.
