Farm Fires
Row many farm fires can you prevent?
That’s the question which H. S. Barksdale, PMA County Chairman put to Rappahannock county farmers at the Production and Marketing Administration joined other agencies in observing National Fire Prevention Week proclaimed by President Truman as October 8-14, 1958.
Most fires are manmade, the Chairman sdld, in that they are the direct result of carelessness and neglect. Farm fires last year cost the rural people of the United States 895,000,000 or an average of over |15 per farm. Even worse, they cost the lives of nearly 3,500 farm people.
Big fires start from little fires! But each time a farm fire gets out of band, insurance experience shows, ah average of one-fifth of the farm property value is destroyed.
