Thirty Culpeper county farm- - ers are taking advantage of the special allocation of funds by the Production Marketing Administration (AAA) for drainage work. Culpeper was one of the few counties in 'Virginia to receive the extra allocation to be used for drainage iwork during thq remainder of the calendar year. Farmers are paid at the rate of 8c per cubic yard for all of the dirt moved in a ditching project, the total sum not to exceed $100.00 per farmer. On most random drainage projects, 8c per cubic yard covers from 26 to 40 per cent of the total cost of the job. Soil Conservation Service technicians are assisting the farmers and the T.MA. in accomplishing this work.
Jere White of White Shop has recently completed a 1-acre farm pond. Major John P. Sigman has constructed a 1.0 acre farm pond jon his farm near Reva. Both ponds were constructed principally to assure an adequate water supply and for fire protection. The ponds will be stocked with the proper number ~ iltd” species of large mouth black, bass and blue gills next spring.
