Education is a wonderful thing. Parents are wonderful. Good litelature is wonderful. But the most astounding thing is the durability, of children. Think of that poor youngster, sick in bed—which was bad enough in itself—but to have mother read Thackeray when she had him down and he couldn’t get up! Surely none but the very hardy could have survived that ordeal. ' Curiosity being what it is, I ventured the question: “When that lad grew up, what became of him?" “Oh, he turned out very well,” was the reply. I believe it. If he survived the chicken-pox and Thackeray at the same time, it showed remarkable stamina. I had whooping-cough and mumps at the same time, but never again shall I venture pride in stamina; that boy has me licked a mile!
