a new type ot treatment for the prevention of insect infestation of corn in storage is now available for use on the current corn crop. The insecticide, Pyrenone Grain Protection is applied to the corn going into storage to achieve protection and the rate of application is about 1.6 ounces per bushel of corn. Cost, of treatment is about 2c per bushel and has proven effective for as long as 9 months according to J. 0. Rowell, Extension Entomologist of VPI. It is also reported this insecticide can be used effectively in any type of bin or crib and although applied directly to corn can be used for livestock and human consumption. Pyrenone Grain Protectant is available in limited quantities and may be purchased through Planters Chemical Corporation, 3111 Broad Creek Road, Norfolk, Va. We still think Jacob did a fine job with his pigs and is certainly due congratulations, when in reality he was competing against adults who were pure bred breeders with many many years of experience.
