A fellow in the county says the old custom of burning the Yule Log at Christmas in a by-gon«day in Virginia meant that as long as the log burned there was holiday. A group of workmen on the farm got a good joke on the farmer by fixing the annual Yule Log in fine fashion. They found on old hollow log and filled it with wet clay. The log burned in the fireplace for many hours-and ran into days. The old gentleman kept poking the log to see if it w e r e burned through, but all he hit was a solid mass of baked clay, designating that the log was not completely burned. The men grot four days holiday before the old man caught on to the trick.
