The Board approved the recommendation! of the state compensation board, fixing the salaries and expenses of the treasurer's office at $4297.63, and the office of . sheriff and deputy, plus expenses, at $2860.
A motion was made by H. B. Wood,^seconded by E. M. Estes, to object to the recommendation of the compensation board of $8880.26 as expenses and salary of the office of Commissioner of Revenue, because this figure was more than that previously set by tfcp local board of supervisors. A. H. Buckner voted with Mr. Wood and Mr. Estes, but A. C. Latham stated that he had met with the compensation board in Richmond and had agreed with them on their recommendation* and he retained his opinion with a vote of “no” on the motion.
This 'new expense and salary figure of $8830 is $200 less than the amount set for the office of Commissioner of Revenue last year. Of this amount, $2600 is salary for the Commissioner. Commonwealth Attorney R. V. Snead reported that the commissioner’s salary could be $8600 by law.
Following the passing of the motion, Chairman Campbell appointed H. B. Wood, A. H. Buckner, and E. M. Estes as a committee to meet with the three-man compensation board in Richmond at the earliest date possible to confer upon the change The line of procedure following this meeting allows the commissioner, if nob satisfied twith the results of the meeting, to appeal to a court of three judges, one of which will be Judge J. R. *H. Alexandre of the Circuit Court, and two others to be named by the State Supreme Court.
