Bridge construction costs have increased 150 per eent since the ~ start of World War II, Glidden pointed out.
The largest of the secondary1 bridges built by the highway department during the 1051 calendar year in Rappahannock was a 40foot structure over Battle Run on Route 008. In addition to the 7 new bridges built, repairs were made on four bridges, Resident Engineer Worthington said.

While facing a serious problem of sufficient personnel, the highway department in 1952 hopes to continue to replace many of the inadequate bridges and to stabilize as many of the roads in Rappahannock County as funds will permit.
